Product Development and Project Management Team Up for a Big Win!

Our primary concern is to complete your project on-budget and on-time. From the first call through install our team of knowledgeable professionals will be by your side, which is why a large hospital group in West Central Ohio chose us when they needed a new patient communication board solution.

CHALLENGE

Corporate re-branding and an expanding need for patient communication boards led the hospital group to us. They wanted to upgrade from traditional whiteboards and move to using custom graphics and information on each board to improve the flow of information between care teams and their patients.

For their initial order, the hospital chose our Classic Communication Board. But, for their next phase, they came to us requesting something more upscale and professional.

STRATEGY

Through discussions with the customer we learned that they were initially interested in glass boards, mostly for their aesthetic. However, they are expensive, heavy, and difficult to mount. Our team went to work and, utilizing our knowledge and vendor network, we designed a new Elegant Communication Board to meet their specifications. Crafted with a sleek aluminum frame on the left and right sides, it had just the look they wanted. Because the Elegant board frames have no visible mounting hardware that can be tampered with and are easy to clean, they are ideal in a hospital setting.

Throughout the project, coordination between our signage team, the sales rep, and the inside team at the hospital was essential. The communication board style (Classic or Elegant), the board size, and the correct information printed on each graphic insert all had to be coordinated across the order of 1,200 communication boards that would ship to four different locations according to the hospital’s staggered installation schedule.

In order to manage this complex project, the project management team broke the project into several smaller parts, corresponding to the hospital’s staggered installation schedule. The specific details of each part were then managed through production. Variable copy, such as unit name and room number, was transmitted and uploaded into our system electronically to speed production and guarantee accuracy. Assembled boards were packaged by hospital location and department (cardiac, pulmonary, rehabilitation, etc.) and shipped according to the hospital’s schedule.

RESULTS

Successful product development, detailed and timely project management, and quality product strengthened our relationship with the hospital so much that they have continued to order additional Communication Boards and have moved their badge business to us too. Watch for a success story on the new badge we designed just for them.
